Round 7 Update - Lions Record First Win
25/5/09
Â
Last Saturday was a fantastic day at Nth Dalton Park with 3 wins providing a real shot in the arm for the club. Lets hope we can carry on that winning form in coming weeks.
Â
The Under 18's got back on the winners list with a hard fought win over top 5 side St George. The young Lions made a quick start with the aid of a typically strong NDP breeze and led by 3 goals at quarter time. The boys consolidated their position against the wind in the 2nd term with the Dragons only able to reduce the defecit by 2 points. From there the boys were able to slowly extend their lead as the game wore on and in the end recorded a solid 27-point victory. Great to see Josh Mason amongst the goals with 5 majors and he was well supported by Luke Rutter and Blake Schneider who marshalled a tight defence. The boys have another big test aginst the Eagles today and then a catch-up game against Riverview on June 3.
The Reserves made it 2 wins in a row with a 13-point victory against the Dragons. This win wasn't as stylish as the previous week, but it was no less important as the side slowly climbs it's way up the ladder. With a lot riding on the result both sides were desperate for victory, and the pressure that created combined with the strong wind meant this game reached no great heights as a spectacle. What it came down to was the Dragons pressing for victory deep in the last quarter and Lions despite being held goalless for the term doing just enough to hang on for the win. Mitch Daly continues his impressive form and is pressing hard for senior selection vhile Adam Patterson provided a steadying influence in defence when the pressure was on. Keep up the good form boys and let's aim for three in a row.
The Seniors recorded their first win for the year last Saturday night with a gritty 9-point victory over the St George Dragons. For the first time this year the boys jumped out of the blocks quickly and put the scoreboard pressure on their opponents for the rest of the night. After being in match winning positions and failing to go on with it in the previous fortnight, the side showed great character after St George had drawn level in the 3rd term and threatened to take the game away from us. Great performances from Shane Davis, Ken Ewen-Chappel, Adam McConnochie and a water-tight defence got us home in the last quarter and the win was celebrated with great gusto. Whilst rapt to get a win up, our thoughts go out to Matt Adamson who suffered a serious leg injury on Saturday night. Matty is a teriffic young kid who has been playing some great footy. He is set for a long spell on the sidelines but with the support of his team mates Matty will be back involved at the club as soon as he can.
Next Home Game: Sunday June 14 v Campbelltown
