Rd. 15 Review - Demons overpower Lions
03/08/09

The Under 18's knocked off a fellow top 5 side for just the 2nd time this year with a hard fought 6-point win over Pennant Hills. At home, and with several regulars back on deck, a rejuvenated Lions side made the running for most of the game, but had to survive a late Demons comeback before securing the victory. The young Lions got back to playing some of the fluent attacking footy they showed earlier in the season. Despite lacking a cutting edge up forward, it was a strong defensive effort which got the Lions home . These sides may well meet again in a few weeks time.

The Division One side spent the past fortnight stewing on a sub-par performance against St George. Determined to make amends, the boys must have been wondering what hit them after the Demons posted 3 goals in the opening minutes. The home side switched on, then kicked 5 majors to finish off the term. They continued on with the job and the lead was out to 41 points prior to the last change. Just as the game looked gone, the Demons surged back to within 12 points with plenty of time left on the clock. Fortunately the Lions steadied and went on to record their most important win for the year.

The Seniors were asked for a big lift after a poor couple of weeks. For most of the first half the Lions delivered and had the Demons under plenty of pressure. The visitors however have been in good form of late and surged to the front just before the main break. To say the Lions second half was disappointing would be a major understatement. The Demons key players were instrumental in the visitors romping away with the points after halftime, while the Lions must regroup in a hurry to salvage something from the season.
