The Under 18's yet again flew the flag for the club, this time recording a 39-point win over Riverview College in a stand alone fixture at NDP last Sunday. The young Lions were always in control of the game but would not have been entirely pleased with their performance. After making a bright start, then extending their lead in the second quarter with the aid of a strong breeze, many thought the Lions would go on and win by more than the 43-point break they enjoyed at halftime. But not to be denied, Riverview played a great second half and showed what genuine enthusiasm can do. Today our boys gear up for the finals with a tough game against the Eagles who were much too good for us earlier in the year. With finals looming, a much improved performance is expected.

The Division One boys drew with Sydney Uni for a half last Saturday. Kicking in the Wollongong direction, the boys played some committed footy, were first in for the ball, tackled hard and flat out had a dip. What happened in the other half of the game left the coaching staff scratching their heads. Quarters 2 and 4 were total opposites as Sydney Uni did as they pleased kicking 13 unanswered goals. The failure to man-up, harass and chase, and anticipate play in those two quarters was extremely disappointing. Those disciplines don't require skill, but they do take committment and mental toughness. Those qualities will be required in abundance against the Eagles in game number 300 for club stalwart Brad Ainsworth.

Let's not mince words, the Seniors put in their worst performance for the year last Saturday. These two sides have had some close tussles either side of admission to the Premier Division but in Rd.17 the Students were a class above as they strove to keep their finals hopes alive. The Lions on the other hand, seemed to be looking for the finish line and their season is slowly petering out. The Students made a quick start, but by midway through the 1st term the Lions had rested some control back and clawed their way back into the game. That was about as good as it got though as the home side powered away for the remainder of the game. The Lions however can take something inot next year by knocking off the ladder leading Eagles today.
